What to Do If Your Property is Affected by Storm Damage

  • Check Your Safety – The first thing to do if your home has suffered storm damage is to make sure there are no threats to your immediate safety. As soon as the storm has subsided, assess the damage. Walk around your property to check for downed power lines, making sure not to get anywhere near them. Check your gas lines and shut them off immediately if you smell gas escaping. Also inspect your water lines to make sure your drinking water is clean and safe. If necessary, relocate your family to a hotel or other lodgings until you can get the damage repaired.
  • Document Damage and Contact Your Insurer – The second thing you should do when dealing with storm damage is to contact your insurance company. File an insurance claim, documenting every instance of damage with written descriptions and photos. (If you are forewarned of a storm in your area, it’s wise to take photos of your home before the storm hits so you can compare them to photos of damage, should any occur.)
  • Contact a Repair Company – Once you have documented the storm damage and are working with your insurance company, you’ll need to reach out to a repair company like ours to start the restoration process. Our team has extensive experience in repairing storm damage, and you can count on us to restore your home to like-new condition.
